The book studies the history of migration in China from pre-Qin era to the end of the 20th century, and generally explains the causes, migration objects, migration times, places of migration, places of immigration, migration routes and directions, settlement process and impact of the main migration movements in each period, and makes quantitative analysis as much as possible to summarize their laws. The book is divided into seven volumes: the first volume is an introduction and chronology, and the second to seventh volumes are respectively from pre-Qin to the Wei, Jin, South-North- Dynasties, the Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties, the Liao, Song, Jin and Yuan, Ming, Qing, and late Qing to the end of the 20th century. The volumes are written in a uniform style, but are relatively independent, and their research process and writing structure have their own emphasis depending on the migration situation in different periods.
