Fudan University
Press (FUP), established in May of 1981, is a comprehensive academic
publishing house of key importance under the Ministry of Education
of PRC. In January 2001, FUP and former Shanghai Medical University
Press were amalgamated into new Fudan University Press. At the
same time, Fudan University E-Press was established on the basis
of the former Electronic and Audio-video Department, and is affiliated
to FUP.
After 20 years of great efforts, Fudan
University Press has formed its own distinguishing features in
publication in the areas of humanities, social sciences, economics
and management, sciences, medical science, and foreign languages
and literature. FUP has a number of authors with high qualifications
from colleges and universities and institutions of scientific
research all over China as well as a sales network covering all
parts in the country.
Currently, FUP releases over 400 new titles
and more than 600 reprinted titles each year. A total of more
than 4000 titles have been published since the establishment of
the Press, covering the realms of textbooks, academic anthologies,
biographies, dictionaries and reference books, and cultural knowledge
for mass readers.
Of the titles published so far, over 300
have won prizes in book appraisals of provincial and ministerial
levels and above. "The Electromagnetic Waves in Complex Material
Systems", for example, won the third National Book Prize.
"Monte Carlo Simulation in Polymer Science" and "A
History of Idea in China "(2 volumes) were nominated for
the National Book Prize at different sessions. What’s more, "Hand
Repair and Reconstruction", "Modern Oncology" and
"Modern Western Economics" were awarded the China Book
Prize successfully.
Fudan University Press is, as always,
making great efforts in academic publication with classical, essential
and succinct monographs and college textbooks as its major products.
The Press is also probing and practicing various ways of publishing
in the net era.
Recent years saw that FUP has achieved
faster development in international relations and cooperation.
By October 2003, FUP has introduced more than 150 titles and transferred
some 100 titles in copyrights trading. It has established cooperative
relations with many internationally prestigious publishers.
